Organising a birthday for twelve people is a special kind of admin. Someone can’t do Saturday. Someone else is driving. Two people have gone quiet in the group chat since March. And whatever you book, you’ll be the one chasing everybody for money afterwards.

Bottomless brunch solves most of that, which is why it has become the default for Birmingham birthdays and hen dos. One price, one sitting, everyone eats and drinks the same amount, and the bill splits without anyone getting a calculator out.

Here’s what to think about when you’re booking for a group, and what a brunch at Lulu Wild actually involves.

Why bottomless brunch works for groups

The price is fixed before you arrive. Nobody orders three extra cocktails and quietly hopes the bill gets split evenly. Everyone pays the same, which removes the single most common source of friction at group meals.

It has a start and a finish. A 90-minute sitting means your afternoon has a shape. People who want to carry on can carry on, and people who need to get home have a natural exit that doesn’t require an excuse.

Daytime suits mixed groups. Not everyone wants a late night, and an afternoon booking is far easier to say yes to than a 9pm dinner reservation.

It photographs well. For a hen do in particular, this matters more than anyone admits.

What to sort out before you book

A few things catch groups out, and they’re worth settling early.

Get numbers confirmed properly. Deposits are standard for bottomless brunch across Birmingham and are usually taken per person. If three people drop out the week before, that’s your problem rather than the venue’s. Ask for firm confirmations before you book rather than after.

Check whether the whole table needs the same package. Many venues require it, including Lulu Wild, where everyone at the table chooses the same drinks package. That’s worth knowing before you promise someone they can upgrade on their own.

Ask about non-drinkers early. Most venues will swap in soft drinks and mocktails, but the arrangement varies. If you have designated drivers, pregnant guests or anyone not drinking for any reason, raise it when you book.

Flag dietary requirements up front. Not on the day. A kitchen serving three sittings on a Saturday can accommodate a great deal with notice and much less without it.

Ask what happens if you’re late. Sittings usually start at the booked time, not on arrival. For a group of fifteen, ten minutes of stragglers is ten minutes of your session gone.

Bottomless brunch at Lulu Wild

Lulu Wild sits on the water’s edge at Brindleyplace, across two floors of neon, modern art and deliberately theatrical lighting. It was built to be looked at, which is part of the appeal for a celebration.

The brunch is modern Chinese rather than the usual eggs and sourdough. Starters run to crispy chilli wings with sesame and spring onion, aromatic crispy duck rolls with hoisin, and bang bang chicken salad with chilli, soy and sesame oil. Mains include sanpei chicken with sweet basil and Shaoxing wine, spicy king prawn with lily bulb and almonds, stir-fry tender chicken in preserved black bean sauce, and pomegranate sweet and sour pork. Vegetarians get proper options rather than an afterthought, including black pepper vegetarian chicken and stir-fry spicy tofu with cashew nuts and chilli oil.

The packages

  • Option One – £45 per person. Two courses with unlimited Prosecco, Pornstar Martinis, Lychee Martinis and mocktails.
  • Option Two – £45 plus £9.95 per person. Everything above, plus unlimited Champagne and Rosé Prosecco.

Brunch runs on Saturdays and Sundays for 90-minute sittings, with the last sitting at 4pm. Mocktails and soft drinks can be taken in exchange for the Prosecco package, and everyone at the table needs to choose the same option.

There are DJ sets on Saturdays, which is either exactly what you want for a hen do or worth knowing about in advance if you were hoping to hear each other talk. It’s a celebration room rather than a quiet lunch.

Booking bottomless brunch for a larger group

Beyond a certain size, a normal table stops working. Lulu Wild has three options:

  • The Nest – up to 30 guests
  • The Hideout – up to 80 standing, with its own bar, baby grand piano, mini stage, screen and projector
  • Full venue hire – up to 200 standing

For a hen do of twenty-five, The Nest gives you a defined space rather than a long table wedged into a busy room. For anything with speeches, a playlist or a slideshow of the bride at eighteen, The Hideout is the one to ask about.

Get in touch directly for these rather than booking online, since availability moves quickly at weekends.

Getting everyone there

Brindleyplace is one of the easier parts of Birmingham to reach, which matters when your group is arriving from six different directions.

  • Train: Five Ways or Birmingham New Street
  • Tram: Centenary Square on the West Midlands Metro
  • Bus: Broad Street and Sheepcote Street
  • Taxi drop-off: Broad Street or Oozells Square

Send the group a single pin rather than the postcode. Brindleyplace is a development rather than a street, and people do get lost in it.

A few honest notes

Book earlier than feels necessary. Weekend sittings in party season go weeks ahead, and the good slots go first.

Nominate one organiser. Venues need a single point of contact for a group booking, and democratic decision-making by group chat has never once produced a confirmed reservation.

Check the bill before you split it. Service charge is commonly added automatically for larger parties across the industry. Knowing that in advance avoids an awkward moment at the end of a good afternoon.

Decide what happens afterwards. A 4pm sitting finishes at 5.30pm, which is either the end of the day or the beginning of it. Brindleyplace and Broad Street are both on the doorstep if it’s the latter.
